Undergraduate Research Opportunities In Astronomy

Independent Research: Many Astronomy Illinois undergraduate majors and minors participate in research projects sponsored by individual faculty members. To inquire about working with a faculty member on a research project, please contact the faculty member directly. Students interested in participating in faculty research projects are encouraged to enroll in ASTR 496 RI: Survey of Current Research, which is offered every spring semester.

REU Program: The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation.

USRP: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP) offers undergraduates across the United States mentored internship experiences at NASA Centers and research support facilities. The NASA USRP is NASA’s largest nationwide internship program.
